Mute switchin itself on and off like a muppet!

Hey, I've been workin on a new song and all of a sudden the mute button is flickin on and off on a few tracks (3 or 4 out of 18). it seemed random at first, but ive checked it several times, and its doing it consistently every play back.

if i move the faulty track to a different track, the mute problem moves with it.

if i export the whole thing to wav or mp3, etc the mute is still there....

basically, it seems like its an automated mute option, but if that exists, i certainly dont want it!

any ideas?

Sounds like you set up some mute autmation by mistake. Go to the left hand of the track in question (over past the meters, lower left corner) and click on the little (+) sign and that will open up your automation lanes for that track (you have to click more than once to show all) just make sure the mute lane is a straight line... there is a comand for "show all automation" but im having a brain fart on how to get to it cause the program is not in front of me.

Is the Read Automation button enabled for the tracks it's happening on? Mute is certainly an automation option...

If you had the WRITE Automation button selected when you were playing the track back, it'll pick up all the things you did in the VST mixer while it was on and play them back IF the Read Automation button is selected.

To see what automation is happening on a track, click the little + button at the bottom of a track, then keep clicking it till you see the mute automation track... then delete all the automation! :)
 
I think Show All Automation is on the right click menu, but I could be wrong... I've not got it in front of me either :)

Mess around with automation more my man! Automation can be very handy... it immediately unlocks so many tricks and tools...
 
yeah i use automation for simple things like volume and panning, but never thought anyone would ever want to use automated mute when u can just drop the volume down to zero instead :P
 
Uh. Mute automation. Bad memories.

I was susing Sadie about 5 years ago, mixing a radio programme with about 3 clients with me. The mute kept flicking on and off and I had no idea what the problem was. Had to fiddle and copy audio to new tracks to rememdy it. I looked really stupid. It was only later that I found out about 'mute automation'... :rolleyes:
