Does anyone have this book? I'm asking because I'm wondering if any of the advice he gives in it for deadening rooms is worthwhile.

He basically says to make a tent from hanging thick blankets (or two blankets) to help deaden a space. He says you can create a makeshift vocal room this way, by making a 4x4 (or so) blanket tent. (Kind of like a square shower curtain that uses blankets.

Is their any validity to this? Is it better than doing nothing? I don't have much of a budget at all, but I'd like to deaden my recording room as much as I can and create the best vocal recording area that I can.

Any opinions?

If your not the reading type, 4 panels, 2x4 feet and 3-4 inches thick of either rockwool or 703 rigid fiberglass. Put it in a wooden frame and face it with perforated 1/3 inch thick panel board. Leave 1 inch of space between the back of the panel board and the fiberglass. Enclose the whole thing in a nice fabric. Put the finished product across the corners of your room. If you can afford more put them on the walls to the left and right of your mixing position and on the ceiling above your head. Anywhere there is a 90 degree angle, try and put one of these bass traps.

Using fabric, like drapes is OK in the midrange but most small rooms really require bass traps to tame things under 150 Hz.

Thanks for the tips. I'll try to get that book. However, I don't have any 45 degree angles in my room. Did you mean 90 degree, like a normal corner? Also, where do I put these bass traps in the corner? I assume they go vertically (where the 4 feet is the height and the 2 feet is the width), but how high along the corner do they need to be? Do you have an idea how much one of these would cost?

Ok but how high or low along the height of the corner do I put the bass traps? They're 4 feet high, and the ceiling is 8 feet tall. Do I put them in the middle, or on the ground ... or what?

Geez! Those things are expensive on those two sites!

You said $75 for 8 pieces of fiberglass. How big are these pieces, or how many of them do you need for one trap?

I'm sorry to keep bugging you, but this actually sounds like something I can do. Thanks a lot for your help.
 
The location should be in the middle. Listening height while you are mixing, i.e. ear level is good. That's a starting point, only by running tone checks on your monitors can you know for sure.

The pieces come in 2 feet by 4 feet sheets. This may vary depending on your source.

1 sheet is used per trap.

Oh ok, well then if you can get 8 for $75, that sounds pretty reasonable. The rest of the materials (the 2x4s and such shouldn't be that expensive). Just out of curiousity, how do most people mount them to the wall, especially the traps in the corner?

Oh, and where can you get the fiberglass?
