.....I notice they have a special "too good to print" where you have to call in to hear the latest deal. Has anyone done this? I tried calling the other day but the instructions on the page and the recording didn't quite match up. I'm curious to know what this fantastic (sarcasm) deal is that it's too good to print.

Are you it's not actually "too fraudulent to print without legal ramifications"? :p

I believe the offer has expired. It was quite easy though, you'd speak to a salesperson and mention the word HERO and they'd take about 20% off items from participating suppliers. I was tempted but the threat of long term Obama-nomics made me reconsider. I'm not an illegal or minority which forces me to act responsibly. Sometimes it's just not easy being me, lol. :D

Ahhh, it's SO good to see someone getting political here, violating the terms of use, and all...

Manufacturers will often operate a Minimum Advertised Price (MAP) policy that imposes a minimum price that sellers can advertise a product at. Shure are known for having one of these policies. They're supposed to help 'hold' a product's value and prevent it from being driven down by competing stores trying to undercut each other. As an offshoot it helps the small, independant stores compete with larger retailers.

Personally I think they're a bit of a silly idea, but obviously some people think they work otherwise they wouldn't exist.

So sometimes a price will literally be 'too good to advertise' - they're actually not allowed to advertise it at that price, and some manufacturers who are strict on these kind of policies will actually cut off retailers for breaching them.

But its only a minimum advertised price - they can still sell it to you at the lower price :) This is why you often have to phone up, or add the product to the shopping cart before you can see the price.

It is probably a MAP thing. Full Compass got whacked over that sometime back and now they typically only advertise MAP prices, but you can call them and get their best price - which is usually worth doing as they tend to have very good prices. Some vendors, like B&H do the "e-mail us for best price" thing which also is a way around MAP.

mattr is exactly right. I just picked up a few items from American Musical Supply that said "Too low to show". It's kind of a pain but sometimes you can get a really good deal.

I succumbed to one of those MF "secret deal" emails last year (I must have been pretty bored): when I asked the phone rep what was on sale, it turned out they were giving away the equivalent of NPR tote bags with an order of $99 or more.

Since then I've had better sense.

I wouldn't imagine it's easy being a douchebag, either. Poor baby.

Distasteful comments do not violate the TOS unless they rise to the level of "hateful", which I think the post in question falls short. If it were the OP, I'd move the thread perhaps, but for now it remains.

You folks are right, my comments were ill placed in this forum and I sincerely apologize for them. This was certainly not the place to vent my frustration in what was supposed to be my break-out year to buy some new gear and instead I find myself like so many others struggling just to keep things afloat. In the future I will direct my rants to the appropriate place, the Cave.

Thanks for the apology. Sorry for calling you a douchebag.

Thanks for the neg rep, Supercreep. I really deserved that.
