The Anti-Lambo
I've heard how great these microphones are and now I don't know if I'm hearing good things about the fake ones or the real deal. The Drum guy at Guitar center said he just got a pair and loves his but if he got it from GC chances are they are fake.

Anyway, if any of you guys can shed some light on this that would be great. And for those of you who already bought a pair of Oktava MK-012's, you can see if they are fo' reals with this article right hyah.

Are the real Oktava's worth it or should I get the fake ones?

I have a matched pair on order and decided to go with the Sound Room. They authenticate them, independently test them, return them to the manufacturer if they're not right, and will match a pair for free. Price was about right too - $373 for the matched pair. I scoped around a lot of the message boards and they seem to have an excellent reputation, specifically for what they do with the Oktavas.

thajeremy can you recommend a good place to get some of those mics just like yours?

Are they all that small? What are they primarily used for, vocals or what?

they are some small little suckers!

The most popular uses are as drum overheads and micing acoustic instruments.

They don't sound small. They are great for micing acou guit (and other acoustic instruments). Some people use them for overheads. And, yes, you can get decent results from them on vocals. Make sure you use a pop filter, though.

They really are pretty amazing. I think they are a great compliment to my Neumann 184's. Between the two pairs I can get a lot of stuff covered. I want a pair of Peluso's but I just can't rationalize the expense

yup...they are pretty small...I was surprised too when I got them....I bought them from someone here on HR.com....the person I bought them from bought them from Richard Monroe...also a member of the board....

The paperwork should be in Russian

Assuming the original owner didn't lose it. And I think that some of the later ones imported into the U.S. come with paperwork in English.

But yes, those both look legit.

A lot of the SD condensors are that size. They look to be the same size as my Josephson C42s and only slightly shorter than my KM84i. Nice mics. The size helps with placement. You should try working with an SM7 or an RE-20 for comparison.

ehm, i don't want to sound nasty,
but i got a matched pair MK012's and i bought the black ones cause thats THE color i love :)
anyway, on my mics there's written: OKTABA, but with the "B" in russian, i can't type it with this keyboard cause its european....my paperwork was in russian, with blue pen written on it, couldn't understand a word of it,
so i think my stuff really comes from that land..

but now i wonder...whats up with the "V" instead of the russian "B" ?
are all american-sold-MK012's with a V ?
or maybe only the black versions have a different logo./.?
plus: there is no "ASM" written on mine..

whats going on here
