hey fellas --

I just moved to Washington DC, and was wondering if there is a pro music store to buy recording gear? Thanks for your help!

(sorry for posting my question here, but I didn't know which forum is the right one)

I'm fairly sure there isn't a single music store in DC. Please anyone prove me wrong, as far as music stores go, Chuck Levins in MD is the best but it's far and its a bitch to get back during rush hour. Theres a GC in 7 corners and fairfax but the guys there know very little about anything although they are very nice. Rolls Music is slightly closer to DC than the 7 corners GC but it's been 'under repair' for almost a year now i think. There are a bunch more music stores all over MD but i think Atomic Music is supposed to be the best, i've never been but it's all used stuff and there's always tons of cool stuff going through. Hope this helps!

thanks a lot, that's very helpful!

I can't believe there are no good stores in the DC area, strange. I'll check the places out that you mentioned.

i haven't lived up there in 10+ years, but when i did, i frequented Rolls Music a LOT. They closed shop at one point, but i heard they'd reopened.

Them, and Veneman's Music, which used to be over in Springfield but burned down a while back....i remember hearing that they were gonna (or did?) rebuild. Always got good prices on drum gear at Veneman's.

Chuck Levin is about the only other major player in town. There was no GC when i lived up there. Didn't know that there was.....might have to stop in the next time i'm in the area.....b/c there's not jack around charlottesville other than my local axe shop....

cheers,
wade

I don't think there's anything in Springfield anymore. After the Veneman's went down, a Mars Music came in across the street...and then you know what happened to Mars...

Chuck Levins or Washington Music Center as it is also called is in Weaton MD, which is about a 15 minute drive from DC. Its a kick ass music store.

Oh yeah, I also reccomend Atomic Music in College Park MD, I think paranoidandroid brought it up.

Its great for finding weird cheap used junk!
