so i got me a sweet-ass Mac with OS X and i just bought a tascam US-122 ... all ready to go , but the bundled version of Cubasis that came with the Tascam does not run on OS X ( and says so in the manual) , i have also visited the Pro Tools Free download page which tells me that PT Free runs on just about everything BUT OS X ....... frustrating 2 B sure ....!
so what DOES run on OS X ????

thanks in advance for nuggets of wisdom.

Check out the following link for a discussion of audio software updates for OSX:

http://www.audiobuyersguide.com/software/macosx_for_music.html

Also, check Steinberg's web site for Cubasis driver updates. The manual may be dated. While your their, you might also see if there is a possibility of upgrading from Cubasis to Cubase SX. Finally, check your computer to see if it's possible to startup using OS9. Many recent Macs are partioned and include OS9 and OSX.

Hope this helps.

(PS What version of OSX do you have: Jaguar, Panther, KittyKat, Lion.......
I've read that the latest version has shown problems relating to some software programs, especially Digital Performer.)

ha! no jaguars or kittykats ..... i'm just on OS 10.2.6 ......and yeah , when you start up the Cubasis (since i installed it anyway before i read THAT part of the manual :) ) it opens up in a OS9 platform , but since the tascam drivers are set up in my normal OS , the two dont talk to each other , also , when you start the mac there is NO option to run on OS 9 during startup .... or at least no that i 've found anyway.....dont know much about that panther stuff , dont really need it i'm sure ....

& thanks

You should be able to startup in OSX, change the startup disk to OS9 (using system preferences), and restart. This will get you to OS9. Reinstall the Tascam drivers and you should be able to get the Tascam and Cubasis to work together. If you want to use anything in OSX you will have to change the startup disk again using control panels>startup disk. Hope this helps.

hey dwillis

just so you know , OS9 is not an option in the startup disk window, also the manual states "mac OS 9 is not available as a startup disc" .......o well at least there's porn :(

and hey , whats up with the Logic thing , is it freeware ? is there a freeware equivalent ? so i gotta BUY software while everyone on OS9 uses free stuff ? uh-uh !!!!! no you didn't !!
methinks there is foul play afoot ........ th' saga continues .....
