I'm interested in learning music.
Because of my computer background (I'm a fast typing programmer) I've decided that a keyboard should be (physically speaking) right up my alley.
I'm going to be comming into possession of a supposedly working & good-condition Yamaha "PSR-3" keyboard... (Supposedly also with all the cables I need, but I don't know if this model needs an amp or not, or if it has other external hardware dependencies, etc, etc...).
The information I do have is that it has 49 full-size keys, and a whole lot of dials on it.
I found a froogle ad for one (not a lot of info that was helpful for me, but the picture matches up.)
http://froogle.google.com/froogle_c...8657573&btnG=Search+Froogle&scoring=mrd&hl=en -- they seem to be selling for $50-$100 used, and I've found that a lot of new, craptastic beginner's keyboards are selling for $80-$200; so I'm hoping it's not a total POS.
I don't have any audio equipment, and I can't find a whole lot of useful information on it anywhere. (and Yamaha's website sucks.)
I think it might be more than just an audio keyboard (but I've never owned one, so I wouldn't know) because of all the dials. -- On the other hand it might be less than a normal audio keyboard. (Not speaking in terms of keys, I already know that it only has 49; but, in features... It seems like the amount of dials/buttons on it might rival its key count...)
I've found keyboards that are Yamaha PSR-3xx model numbers, but I'm guessing that's not this one, and that they're like 300 versions higher? (maybe not, I don't know audio.)
Anyone know if this model is "polyphonic" or if it has weighted keys? (I don't know if these are stupid questions or not, since I'm a HUGE Music n00b.)
Anybody know what kind of hardware I'd need just to be able to play with the thing? (I'm not buying an amp for it until I know that I need one, I've seen some keyboards that have phono plugs on them, and I'm hoping that this one does, but if it doesn't -- does anybody know of a *mega-cheap*, not horrible sounding, audio amp? -- I don't mind build it yourself projects -- it seems like for personal use, a computer interface could be built to simplify the construction...)
I just wanna be able to plug headphones in and have something to play with.
Any good beginners guides for learning the keyboard out there on the net? Guides to reading music/piano chords? Recomendations?
