Music Creator 2002 recording delay

I'm using the cheapest version of Cakewalk that I could get, Music Creator, but I have the book by Garrigus for Pro Audio 9. At any rate, I haven't been able to find any trouble shooting info for the problem I'm having:

When I try to record an instrument by lining in to the microphone jack in my computer, it records just fine, it records in time, but the PLAYBACK of the track I'm recording DURING record is delayed by like, half a second or so. As you can imagine, this makes playing in time nearly impossible, and it's making me an insane person. I've tried everything I can think of, but am at a loss as to how to fix this problem. Does anyone have any suggestions??

What soundcard do you have?

Perhaps it is a latency issue. Try to raise or lower the latency-slider under Options -> Audio (I don't know about Music Creator, but that's where it is in Sonar).
