Multitrack recording

I've never tried multitrack recording on my computer yet but I definately want to give it a shot (especially for drums). I'm running an powermac g5 DP 1.8ghz so what would be the best way to setup a multi-track recording system? I'm on a pretty tight budget but any recommendations would be nice. Thanks!
