Multitrack MD vs. DAW

Hi all,

I've been slowly and methodically planning to put together a DAW for a couple of weeks now via mail-order parts (I live in a moderately remote region of Quebec). But a friend just called me and said that he's got another friend who wants to sell a lightly-used multi-track MD recorder for $800 Canadian.
My project is putting together a radio program with voice and music. The show would be an hour long, and consist of lots of long-form interviews recorded in the field...15-20 minutes or so.
My dream DAW would assemble for about $1600-$2000 CAN. Obviously, the MD multi-tracker would be cheaper.
I didn't get specifics on the recorder, as I wasn't speaking first-hand to the current owner. From reading this form, though (esp. the Yamaha MD8 thread), it seems that MDs have some pretty serious limitations and I'd be better off spending more money on a more versatile DAW.
Thoughts? Thanks!

Yo Shepherd:

No flocking around, you will get better results with a digital audio workstation.

I have an MD8 and it is still plugged in my studio; however, I have the Yam 2816 and now that I'm getting through the learning curve, and have produced some cuts, THERE IS NO COMPARISON in sound.

The MD8, as well as a couple of Tascam 488's I've had, were good tools; but getting into 16 bit and 24 bit sound, it's just great.

I've take material done on my MD8 and remastered it on the 2816 and even stuff from the 488 comes out pretty great.

So, my vote: go for the DAW.
