Ideally, I wouldn't why this couldn't work....

I have just been given a Delta 44 card, and already have a Audiophile 24/96 installed in one of my machines. I would like to know if using both interfaces is possible? Would that give me a total of 6 ins 6 outs (analog)? Also, I might go get either the delta 66 for cheap, or the 1814, and would it work alongside these cards? (running 3 to add more io's)

Thank you for your time.

methinks the problem is in the ASIO spec, which doesn't support two devices.

There is a replacement driver that muxes the two devices into a single logical device to the ASIO layer. I don't recall the name of the software offhand (I heard about it here I think). It's sort of pricy, about $80 I think.

And you have to ensure that your devices are supported.

yeah soudns like a driver issue. ASIO only allows one device at a time, like fraser said.

$80 for a driver.. thats a lil nuts, drivers are supposed to be like free.. soudns more like a hack than a driver too..

So there's gonna be a problem... hmm.. just saw my own question.. it's suppose to be "i don't know why this wouldn't work",

I haven't installed the new cards yet, it's only the 24/96 in it right now. But from what you guys are saying, whenever I place the delta 44 in there, there will be a issue with running both cards at the same time... Thanks.

The delta 44 cards support kernal syncing allowing you to run more than one at a time. Not sure if this extends to the 2496 though

Actually, you get drivers for specific hardware free because that's how the card interfaces with the OS, and it is therefore bundled as part of the deal. You pay it when you buy the card, and that's the revenue stream of the developers.

In this case, it's a third party developer that is developing a driver that is NOT tied to any hardware, and since they are not getting revenues from the hardware, they recoup their costs by charging you for the software. It is not a hack incidentally, it's actually a good idea, and relatively simple in theory. The question is, will enough people want it and pay for it (possibly the bigger question around here..) to support the developers?

Hi MSet..
ebay for another 1 or 2 cheap Delta 44/66's (thus creating at least 8-12 'real' ins/outs) then sell me your 2496.....I'm currently running 3 Delta 44's and an Audigy for monitoring/midi/stuffing around, all via a 16 channel Alto desk ......all without ASIO support and all without any problems. (Cool Edit 'sees' all the cards as seperate entities), and I have no timing issues to speak of.....I must be very lucky or very stupid!!

Everything has a seperate 'in' and everything has a seperate 'out'.....easy.

But hey....that's just me.!!!!
Just my 2 bits worth!! :D :)
Superspit.

true, it can be useful, in my case, using old stuff and not throwing it out, and incorporating it with any new devices I may come up with... but not for $80 dollars

Hi MSet...I don't know where the $80 came up from either....???
Anyway, I think you get the point I was making.....Good luck!!

I emailed M-Audio on this way back...I was told that the two different types of cards could not be synch'd together but, any two Delta cards should play nicely together. I have to 1010LT's in the same machine running without a hitch. I also have my Audigy SB card in as well but you can't run it at the same time as the delta's.

yeah, I just went ahead and installed the Delta 44, along with the already installed 24.96 and it's actually working fine. The only offset is that for some weird reason, while recording & tracking, the monitors switch to the Delta 44's out's instead of the 24.96 (which I originally had it). And then, when I play something outside of the tracking programs, like media player, then it'll play out of my 24.96 AND Delta 44 even when I switch outputs or fix my paths in pro tools. When I do track though, I can choose what input I want from either the delta 44 or 24.96, which is what I really want. However I did also want separate outputs... I'll have to research that part and see how I can fix that. Anyways, all in all, it did work, though not the very choice of how to hook things up. Thanks people.

i've been able to access more than one soundcard at once with asio4all, but I never really tested it out... i'm guessing that they would be out of sink due to different clocks but you could try it. just google it.

Yes, ASIO4ALL will let you run several different types of cards at once but you get bad sync problems because of the different clocks and a Lot of Clicks and Pops ect.....

I believe that is what the driver I mentioned above helps solve.

Otherwise, I think the only solid way to use more than one card is if the driver for the cards support working together and handles the word clock issues for you.

time clock questions

I use multiple 1010lts and the std ASIO with no problems with GTP3 but I wasn't doing anything in the digital domain. I recentley started using SPDIF with an ART DSP 2 and a VAMP it seems to work. But there are a few special sequence of steps I have to do to get it working. I notice I can't get the word clock to lock though all I get is this light hissing when I attempt to use it I've tried using 75ohm coax cable "old networking cable" with 75 ohm terminatiors on both ends, one end, and no ends. I get the same result every time are there some secret to get the word clock to work with external device on these 1010lts ?
Or is this where the ASIO driver issue kicks in?
