I thought that a DAT was a multi trak recorder. I had a Tascam Analogue "home studio" and it gave so much background noise and was so complicated that after it was all said and done it would have been easier to use a simple home stereo box "boom box" if you will and record the band live. I was thinking of using the drum machine to produce a first layer beat. And record it directly (digitally) into the DAT with zero background noise. Then on another track, overlay a guitar, or keyboard, or whatever, then keep overlaying bass sounds on other tracks, and maybe use the same drum machine to add accent percussion sounds...here is where a sampler would be PERFECT. Then come back and on another track lay down the vocals. And any other effects also on other tracks. Then here comes another problem??? How in the hell can I record vocals. With my Tascam I used the PA head. I plugged the Mic intot he head and then ran the head through the speaker cables directly into the 4 track. Well the Wattage of the PA head after 2 days fried my 4 track. Feeling like and idiot. I just gave up for a while. THen finally I rented a head for a PA with no power amp in it. That worked perfectly. However I can't afford to buy a head for a PA and I can't rent one every tiem I want to record something? What does someone like me do?... BUT Thank you from the bottom of my heart for even resonding. I was sure that NO ONE would take me seriously and would make more fun of me than help me.
