Could someone explain what these are. My presets in the 1680 only go to 209.
I have heard about further settings. What are they and how could I get em? --Billy

The MTK presets (Mastering Tool Kit) becomes available to you, after you upgraded your OS software with Midi Files. They can be downloaded for free at Rolandus.com.

For VS880EX users: MTK becomes available at version 2.001. The highest current version is 2.005. This last upgrade mainly makes your VS-recorders compatible with more CD-burners.

I would like to download this upgrade but I do not know how to looad it in the VS1680. If I burned the data to CD (Im not even sure if I can do that) on my computer, could I then load it ito the VS1680 some way?
How has everybody else been doing this? --Billy

Good question, Billy. I would also like to know how you get the software upgrades into the VS machines; I have a VS880 V Expanded that I just got, fresh out of the box (I know it's like last years model) and I've never mucked with MIDI; I prefer standalone units and keep the computer out of it. Do you have to have updated software just to send out your mastered stuff to a standalone CD recorder, like a Philips CDR775? It doesn't seem to me like it should matter...

The information you need is on the Roland US website.Cheers!

To update the 1680 OS go here - http://www.rolandus.com/SUPPORT/SOFTWARE/UPDATES2.HTM

Download the OS version .zip file and the smfplayer program. This is a program that roland provides for sending the update to the 1680 as a set of midi files.

Unzip and read the directions in the read.me.

Then you need a midi hookup between PC and 1680. A cable adapter to the joystick port works fine.
