I just got my MR8 recently and am having a noise problem. Part of the problem I know is I need to get a better mixer. I am planing on getting a Behringer UB1202. But even if I run my guitar direct into the recorder I am getting a lot of noise. It get even louder if I use my effects pedal which is a DigiTech RP50 which is noisy anyway. My question is would a power contitioner like a Furman help, or would it be better to get a noise reduction pedal to put in line with my effects pedal? Which guitar I am using makes a differance too. My Strat has less noise than my LP Studio.

Is the noise present on playback or only during monitoring?

If it is only during monitoring, I've heard it said many times that it could be something in the headphone (?jack/circuitry?), which can be remedied by turning the unit off then on again. I've never had this problem personally, so don't quote me, but if you do a search on "MR8 noise" or something of the like, you may find a more detailed answer....

guitar/pedal/mixer could surely have an effect on noise/hum as well, but as far as a power conditioner, I have no clue.

Make sure everything in your signal chain is on an isolated outlet, away from the interference of air conditioners, refrigerators, etc...

Make sure your instrument cables are not laying on top of power cables. Do not keep you cables "wound" but allow them to lay strewn out...

Some things to try anyway, someone will be along eventually who can confirm my guesses of dismiss them at some point!

Good luck!!! :)

The noise is on playback. Thanks for the tips I will give them a try. A power conditioner does isolate the power supply, so I'll give that some thought.

power conditioner

you really shouldnt need a power conditioner, there is something in your signal chain creating the noise, you said you need a better mixer, if you play through the mixer do you get the noise through the speakers?

you have got to create a clean sound, start with one item (guitar) or what ever, is it clean? keep adding parts of the signal chain til you find out where it is coming from (good cords) humbucker pickups?

Sorry it I was late getting back to you. I was out of town for a few days. Yes the mixer is noisy. It is a powered board, that is why I want to get an unpowered mixer. Also yes to the humbucking pickups being nosier. My Les Paul is noisier that my Strat. But I get the noise when I plug my mike into the recorder and don't use the board. The mike is a Shure Sm58. I tried pluging my guitars into the recorder and the noise is less, but still there. That is why I thought isolating the power supply to the recorder might help. I will try new cords and see if thet helps. Thanks for all the info.
