What is perfect pitch?

The ability to toss a [insert name of least favorite musical instrument] into a toilet without hitting the rim.

Hi Clif,

Another excellent demonstration of musicianship! You obviously have great skills on many instruments and the ability to put them all together into one coherent piece.

The tunes you posted take the facade of TV shows and video games, and they achieve what they are supposed to do. I hope next time you will do a piece of music where your personality steps out more into the spotlight, because I would like to hear that.

I hope I have not offended you. I have gotten to know you a little bit through these postings, and would like to know you better through your music too.

I aim my "skin flute" into the toilet when I pee. Does that count?

Another cool tune, Clif -- excellent! Did you use the DR-5 for drums/keyboard?

Thanks Digitcallous! No offense taken:)

I am working on a legit instrumental that isn't bassed off a TV show etc.

I have just developed a bad habit off trying to make arrangements of very odd tunes from unlikely sources. I do it as kind of a challenge for myself.

Thanks for listening. My next song will be from me I promise:)

I recently picked up a DR-5 and was wondering the best way to program the keyboards -- do you use a midi keyboard or do you actually sit down and work it all out with the buttons on the unit? Your stuff always sounds so smooth and complex -- that's a LOT of button pushing!

Cool addition to your gear. I actually use the buttons on the unit since they are layed out like a guitar neck and I am very familiar with notes/scales/patterns that way. I could never find my way around with a keyboard unfortunately.

Most of the time, when I am programming, I slow the tempo way way down to make it easier and occasionaly I use the step writing mode if I need to do a real complex run of 16th notes etc.

So my vote is to just slow the tempo down to 60-80 BPM so that it is easier to program phrases. I also do my patterns (in a 4/4 song for example) in 16/4 time so that I don;t have to create many patterns.

ANother trick that I do all the time is copy patterns or drum tracks from one pattern to the next so that I don't have to do as much programming. I do this every time.

Thanks! I was just on their site after finishing my song. I didn't think much of their playing until I watched a video clip of them, they are actually pretty good musicians! It's amazing that they have such a strong small following.

Man, you have that DR5 figured out! The bass playing is a given of course. You're bad to the bone man. I will have to try slowing the tempo way down with the DR5......that may be just what I need. I'm working on a tune that I'm gonna have to use the DR5 on, it's just sittin there waiting for me take the plunge. Good tune clif!

Thanks for the DR-5 tips, Clif! I've been sitting here staring at this thing wondering where I should start -- I don't have a lot of time to dig in too deep, and I appreciate anything that will help me save time getting up the learning curve!

Thanks guys!

If you need any Dr-5 help feel free to mail me. I don't hang around the Boss forum at all so contact me directly if you need help.

I've figured out how to play back the demo on my DR-5...:p

:D  :p

That is a gret start, because when I bought mine, I tried for 4 hours to play back the entire demo song but all I heard was drums. I finally figured out that the previous owner had muted all of the other instrument tracks!

Hey Clif,

I always enjoy your stuff. Your songs alway have a wicked bass line. Now that I know you're a Mark King fan, I know where you get your influence from. Are you a slapper like Mark King? Whatever happened to Level 42?

Thanks Knopler.

Yes, a am a slapper like him. I really take on after his "thumping" technique.

Level 42 is still around playing their classic songs, But I just bought a DVD of them and they have new players (besides MArk King) and I don't think that they are writing any new music:(

My nest song submission will be more my style of instumental fusion.

Thanks again for listening:)
