I was thinking of getting an MR-8, a type of Beringer Eurotrack, and a few SM57s. Good idea?

GREAT IDEA to get started, may want to go with a yamaha mg series mixer if you can afford it...........youll thank me later

will you be dumping this onto your computer?

i think i will be dumpin it on my comp because of the media card that you use with the MR-8.

good deal

i think so, while i do have a bigger mixer, i also have a small behringer for the phantom power, it has a nice clean sound, easy to use, and with my unit anyway, sounds just like my bigger mixer.....cant go wrong with sm 57"s (ever)

if your going to the pc, youl will need software, i like n track its inexpensive and works great for me, but there are lots of different programs that work well.....
dont forget to dwonload the fostex wav manager (free) for downloading songs from mr8 to pc and back

So after the recording goes through the mixer to the mr-8 to the computer, do i need extra software (that isnt free or comes with the mr-8)? If so, what for?

You'll need a digital audio software package for mixing - basically a recording studio on your computer that will let you manipulate your tracks much more than you can on the MR-8 alone. Many people here use n-Track, which is cheap and has a very supportive user community.

software

you record to the mr8, take the tracks from the cf card, download to the computer, use n track or whatever to mix, eq, add effets, compression, mix down to one track send back to the mr8 as a go by track, and keep adding more tracks and repating till your done, then master, really great recording this way,

the mr8 a is really designed to be used in conjunctin with the pc, although it is not marketed that way.. n track is 40 dollars and well worth it, and effects are free all over the net...

If you're interested, I'm about to list a complete studio on ebay. It was my beginning setup. I can drop the recorder (a Tascam cassette) if you wish. The rest is a Behringer mixer, cables and 2 MXL condenser mics. I know I can sell the recorder individually. If interested, email me directly and I'll give you model #'s and prices. Everything is in excellent condition.

No, not at all.

My current setup is an MR-8, a DMP-3 mixer and 2 - Audio Technica AT3035's. It's a world of difference.

It'll come in handy too. I'm getting ready to do my first masterclass (classical guitar) in October 2004.

Regards, Steve
