Can I purchase and install the CD burner from Fostex so that mine will have the on board burner? I've tried the PC method and for some reason cannot figure out how to store the song on the pc to burn at a later time. It would just be better for me to be able to easily burn a cd so that I can experiment with the mix in different sound systems.

........can anyone either suggest something or inform me why I can't store the songs on my pc like I would any other song downloaded to the pc?

Thanks,

Could not find any info in the Instruction Manual. Does your MR16 have a blank panel on the side of the machine under the track faders? This is the location of the CD drive in the MR16 HD/CD.

The MR is designed to drive a self powered CD burner from the USB Host port. There are a number of self powered CD burners on the market but most people download their files to a CD burner in their PCs.

Als look at Twitch's new Fostex forum.

Set the MR16 in to USB mode (p107-109 User Manual) Plug in and let your PC recognise the MR16 (this may take a few moments) Treat the MR16 as an external drive. You can now download the stereo .wav file from the 2Mix folder of your chosen song. Load each file into a folder on your PC and use a software package such as Nero to burn the CD.

(I'll be sure to repost this over at the Fostex forum.)

Went through this very event last night. I had to stereo tracks to move from the Fostex to the PC. I had hoped to use the Wav Manager, but ended up accessing the MR16HD as an external drive.

I tried on both my recording computer as well as my wife's laptop. I could run the line from the USB on the back of the MR16HD to the computer. I could get the computer to recognize the MR16HD. I could even open a folder and remove the desired material from the "2mix" folder. However, I could not get the Wav Manager to work at all. I do have whatever current version was available from the Fostex website.

The instructions state that you should put the recorder in "USB Mode", plug in to the computer, make sure the computer shows the MR16HD in the "My Computer" directory, then click on the Wav Manager.

On both computers...if the computer shows the Fostex in the "My Computer" directory, the Wav Manager will not open. You -can- open the Wav Manager if the computer doesn't recognize it at the moment, but the Wav Manager still won't register any of the information (either from the CPU or the recorder) once you plug the recorder in while it is actively in "USB Mode".

So...even though I can access the stereo wav file and remove it like any other external hard drive...is there something I'm not doing right with the Fostex Wav Manager?

Thanks for your ideas...

Thanks to all of you for your replies. I'll follow thru with your suggestions... My MR 16 does have a blank cover where a burner would have been placed,,,I wish I could just buy the burner to install there. But Fostex has not replied to my question about doing this. I'm considering buying a stand alone burner to burn directly from the recorder and getting on with things.

Thanks everyone.

soandso,

Terfyn might have already suggested logging in at this Fostex forum, but just in case here it is...

Look for the Fostex forum.

He suggested I get the current version of WavManager (ver 2.12 I believe). I believe the older version wasn't compatible with Windows XP. That's what I'm running on my computer.

I went from the WavManager not working at all to at least registering info on the "MR to PC" function as well as the "CD Burning" function. I'm going to give both of those a try later.
