MPC as the Master Pro Tools as the slave

Beatmakers,

I've never been able to record midi from the MPC 2000 XL to Pro Tools 7. Every time I do the MPC will record a single MIDI note and Pro Tools will hang (crash). Why? I definitely have a fat enough computer with enough memory and I never have touble recording audio from the MPC to Pro Tools. Your help is apreciated!

Every time I do the MPC will record a single MIDI note and Pro Tools will hang (crash).

You are experiencing a midi loop. This is when midi data feeds back on itself in an endless way.

Protools or any other computer audio application is very confused by this, and doesn't crash so much as, to use your word, 'hang'.

There are two solutions to this problem, both equally easy to do. Number one, have the MPC send and receive on separate channels. Number two, unplug the midi cord going back into the MPC while you are clocking PT from the MPC, then plug it back in when you are done.
