MP3 too big for email

I took one of my recordings from tape, turned it into a wave(HUGE 26.8MB), compressed it to 13.4MB via power tracks, then used Right Click MP to turn into MP. It's still 3.18MB, which is way too big for most folks email. Except for a friend in Austin who has the fastest set up ever, the d/l takes about 18 minutes, and that would actually jam some people's mail. What did I do wrong, or is that as small as I can make a two and a half minute song? Please and thank you...gibs

Sorry man, most servers will not allow emails that are over 1 MB in size. You would be able to send it, but the receiving person doesn't even get any kind of notice at all that the email was sent.

Solutions? If your provider has given you some website space, or ftp space, you could upload it to there. Otherwise, try mp3.com . You can post it there for download provided that it was converted at 128kbs.

On another note. I don't know about compressing the file first before converting to mp3. I am willing to bet that you could get even better quality by converting from .wav to mp3 directly without compressing the .wav first. Try converting the .wav at 192kbs. I have found that there are diminishing returns by converting any higher than this. You mp3 file would be about the same as you have right now at 192kbs. You can even make it smaller by converting at 128kbs. This would compress it at a 12:1 ratio, so your mp3 file would be about 2 MB is size for that particular song you mentioned. Songs converted at 128kbs sound alright, but I still really prefer 192kbs if I want people to hear the music somewhat close to what the .wav sounds like. Either way, because of the data compression, there will be a quality loss. But I doubt that on regular computer speakers you would hear the difference if converted at 192kbs. I wouldn't know this for fact because I have Event 20/20's, so I hear just about any sonic difference..... :)

Hope this helps. Good luck.
