Mp3 retard needs help!

I'm new to this mp3 stuff. I have a CD copy of a song I want to post. I want to pop it into the cd rom drive of my MAC (this seems to be my problem!) and convert it to mp3. I understand that I will need a mp3 encoder but I can't find a free one to download anywhere. I did find a demo of a program that inserts a soundbyte ad into your mp3 until you register at $40!!! Can anyone help me?

Dragon posted the URL of a site that reviews the various encoders and you can download em free... The one I got is called SoloH(not soHo)... It rocks.
