Greeting,

So, my old computer died, so I reloaded my tascam us-1800 and cubase LE5 up on my laptop, and all worked wonderfully well. I tried to bounce down to an MP3, and it wouldn't go, it kept saying insufficient disc space. I thought that was odd as I have like 700 gigs available.

So, deeply searching the manual, somewhere I found that after 30 days I now have to buy the mp3 encoder! Wtf?

So, does this all sound normal?, any idea of how much it costs? Are there other ways to bounce down to a mp3? If I buy it, it should be really easy though??

I hate little things like this.

Anyways, tanks in advance to anyone who can shed a little light on this for me.
While I'm at it, are there any guitar modeling plug-ins available that are cool?

Thanks,

Doug

Oh ya, it also says I have to register, even though I did on my other dead computer. Do I just do the same thing? I do have the numbers, so would I just re-use those?

Can you download a free MP3 converter (google Lame) and tell Cubase to use that?

You should be able to re-register.

If that doesn't work, try CDex. It will convert to MP3 from WAV or CDs.

If you bought it in the past you should be able to get it again one way or another.

Yeah, Cubase makes you purchase the MP3 converter. Super-lame, imo. But there are plenty of free converters on the internet. Mixdown to a wav file and use a free converter.

oohhhhh, So I would still use the cubase mixdown feature, ut instead of mixing to mp3, I would mix down to a wavw. Then with an outside converter/encoder , import the wave file into that to convert to mp3..

correct?

Any idea how much Cubase wants for their encoder?, I don't mind paying a little to keep it all synced with the same company..

Yep. This is correct. And is probably a better way of doing it, even if it is one more step.

=.= this sucks man.. thanks for recommending some free alternatives

There is a reason your version of Cubase is called LE (limited edition). It is not necessarily 'free' software. It gives you insight into what you could have if you purchase the software. The MP3 encoder is just one thing that is a necessity, and works seamlessly from within a full version. A carrot tease for recording rabbits..

There are free ways to do everything. Best? Not sure. If you like the software, then the manufacturers hope to see you back. Then you get the bells and whistles.

If not, then try other software. You will get the same type of limitations. Well, unless you decide to go to Reaper.

Hey, do that, because the less people use Cubase, the less they will charge me for the next C7 version!!! lol

The mp3 option is only included with the full version.

Really crappy right?
