If I have my projects saved to a external hard drive can I just plug into a different laptop using the the same DAW(reaper) and pull em up and continue? That seems too easy, am I missing something obvious.

Sorry for the dumb question, just dont wanna mess things up!

That should work fine.

If it doesn't your bus is too slow (usb/firewire?), or the session is too big.

USB, my partner is FINALLY getting a new laptop, nothing fancy, windows 7 i3 4gb mem 500gb hardrive.

Im gonna bring my lapop also but I just wanna copy and paste each song and dump it into his computer so he can work on his guitar parts. It seems easy enough, I just dont want any surprises so im just making sure i am not missing something obvious like i usually do!

I've not tried that on Reaper but do it all the time on Audition.

(I had a session open today that was on it's fifth computer as of the last opening. The only change I've had to make is to specify a different audio interface a few times since I've had some changes/upgrades over the years.)

No, I'm not THAT slow mixing--I was redoing something for the original composer.

Well im hoping its just as easy as it sounds, but when things are that easy I panic and have a tendancy to complicate things by over thinking them!

Thanks for the replys!

I have done this with various software over the years and it will work. The only time problems happen is when you are using plugins on one computer and they are not installed on the other one, you will get a message about this and the project will load without the plugin but revert back to how it sounded before. Sometimes as the files are in a different location, you may get a message about looking for files or it has located the files, etc etc depending on how cleaver the software is.

Cheers
alan.

Yes, it works just fine swapping between PCs and an external HD. I use Reaper as well, and all of my work is backed up on a WD Passport external HD. Opening the projects from multiple PCs has never been complicated. You're good to go.
