I have a song I've been working on forever. The problem is that no matter what I tried vis a vis reverb I just couldn't get the backing vocals to sound as far behind the lead vocal as I'd like. So, yesterday I tried something new (to me). I took one of my ECM8000s and placed it at one end of my lounge (which is about 14' feet long). Then I placed me at the other end (conveniently close to the 388) and sang. Result: a backing vocal that sounds like it's far away from the mic! I also did one at half the distance and blended the two to one track; I think it sounds pretty good :)

Now: If only I had a phones lead that stretched to the bathroom :D

Yo Mark of Long cords:

You can use a pair of wireless cans and go back up to 300 feet.

Hello! Can you hear me now?

Wow, that worked. 14 feet away from the mic? You didnt pick up any unwanted room noises? I know if I place the singer more than 6 feet from the mic, it becomes sorta cloudy with ambience.

Picking up unwanted room noise (though my lounge is so dead it's almost an anechoic chamber) was the whole point of the exercise. They were backing vocals you know; I wouldn't do the same thing with lead vocals.
