motu... hmmm

Would it be wise to change my setup from a tascam tmd-1000 and a pci-822 tdif card to a motu 2408 and a good analog mixer(so i can use the tdif and the analog at once, until i can expand to a 1224 for a greater number of tracks at a higher quality)?

I don't about wiser, but options are huge. I have an ADAT so that allows 8 tracks in. I have 8 analog ins too. If I go buy a TASCAM or another ADAT I can take 8 more tracks in. I could also buy a presonus DigiMax. Anyway, the 2408 is a great card and I think it is just as good as the 1224 more or less. I mean, you get 24 inputs. If you want more than that, you can buy more rack units and that would be 72 tracks. Options are the key here.
