Are the MOTU hardware interfaces compatible with Pro Tools, or any other PC mulitracking software? I currently have an Mbox but am thinking about upgrading soon. I figured i would just get Digi 002 Rack, but alot of people like the MOTU stuff, so i figured its worth a look. I guess its perhaps not the cheapest, as the Digi 002 comes with PT, and with a MOTU interface i would have to buy software seperately. A guy i know has the 896 and he loves it.

I would just switch over to Mac, but i have been using PC for so many years.

I don't use ProTools, but I have ZERO problems with my 828mkII and all my recording/audio software. (Cubase, NTrack, SoundForge, FruityLoops, ACID, Winamp, all plug-ins.... I'm on a Gateway M520 laptop with the 828 and a Glyph GT050 firewire harddrive.)

Just be sure to follow their advice and get a compatible Firewire chipset (must be Texas Instruments).

Very happy and have not regretted every penny I paid for the 828mkII; it's solid as a rock and great quality...

ProTools software needs ProTools compatible hardware to work (either the full blown system, M-box, the racks, or the M-powered M-audio interfaces). So, you can't use it with a MOTU. Most of the other software packages should work just fine with the MOTU.

Thats cool. So i want to get a MOTU system i will have to use something different than Pro Tools. Its kind of hard to get away from Pro Tools, because that is what i am used to using. Are there Windows multitracking programs that are comporable to PT? Perhaps Sonar or something?

I use Sonar 5 Producer and think it's a great package. I used Cubase SX previously, and Sonar just runs better for me. You could check out the Cakewalk forums and see what users think, or even in here. I know I'm a happy camper and can't say enough about it. I've never used PT, so I can't compare the two.
