OK simple quesion ...The RME costs twice as much... does it sound twice as good?

RME get a lot of great reviews on this board ...but I desperately want a new Sound card and i don't want to have to wait another 2 months to save up the £££ for it ...

Should i just get the motu 828 mkii... or is there something else out there that i should be considering ...

the m-audio delta 1010 and presonus firepod don't seem to get as good reviews as the motu 828mkii ...

Any suggestions? :)

If you are a Mac user, you might want to look at the Metric Halo interfaces. You might also want to check out the Motu 896 depending on the features you're looking for.

I assume the RME is better than the 828 but only you can determine if the cost increase if worth the marginal or incremental improvement in quality. When you start to hit this level of equipment, there is almost always a high cost for small sometimes perceived improvements in gear. You're either willing to make the jump or not.

I'm not sure I would pay $1,500 for an interface with mid-range converters and stock preamps. If you need firewire, portability, and eight preamps, maybe it fits the bill. My sense, however, is that when you start to pay this much for an interface it makes more sense to go all the way and get a good stand-alone converter (Mytek, Lucid, Apogee, etc) and combine it with a soundcard and separate preamps.
