With the MOTU 828 Audio Interface, is audio processing accomplished within the stand-alone unit, or does it work via PCI, like a standard soundcard? If the converters are outside of the PC, how fast is it (I've heard that stand-alone audio interfaces are known for high latency, but this is probably not the case with the 828, due to FireWire capabilty, right? Thanks.

BTW - My other consideration is: Right now I'm running a standard PCI soundcard on a PIII system with a 33MHz PCI Bus (w/ Win 98SE as the OS.) If I went with the 828, it would be with a new P4 system...considerably faster. If the 828's are slow, would the newer system make up the difference? Thanks.
