motu 828 mk2 channel noise / crackle / static.

Hey folks.

Just realised today there's an intermittent static kind noise on the 1st mic pre channel of my 828 mk2.

It happens with or without mic.
with or without +48v.
with or without pc firewire connection.

The volume of the noise changes in accordance with the gain knob.

Has anyone experienced this before?

I've already done the factory reset on the motu and the firmware is up to date.
