Oh my, crappy picture.

Anyway, The Motu 7S is a 7 channel, stereo mixer, completely midi controlled, squished into a 1U rackmount unit.

All the jacks are on the back of the unit.

Input Channels 1-7 have 1/4" phone jacks for Left and Right (stereo inputs, and mono signals go into the "L" jack). They can handle -10db signals from tape decks, cd players, dat outputs etc, as a summing mixer if you have multiple stereo recorder units that you might mix down to. It can also be used as a summing mixer for outboards, as it's also compatible with +4db signal levels - a nice feature.

The main stereo outs are also 1/4" phone jacks.

There is a midi in and thru jack as to be expected.

The unit also has two stereo effect loops, which are RCA jacks. It also has a stereo pair of "chain" jacks, in and out, so multiple units like this can be cascaded to become one larger mixer.

There actually is an 8th channel, which is seperate RCA in/out (also stereo) typically used as a tape loop, however you can in fact use it as an eigth input channel, but you have to use the knob to control that channel, as it's not midi controlled.

The unit also has a gate function, which with one knob you can control gating of all the channels to reduce noise during silent portions of your music. I found it to and "okay" gate but it's certainly not the best noise gate I've ever used - but it is there.

On the front panel there are 7 trim controls for channels 1-7, and an eight trim control for the tape loop which as I said can be used as an eight stereo channel. There also is the gate knob, a headphone jack and volume, a power switch, and an overal stereo output volume knob.

I believe it was designed to be used as a keyboard mixer - since each channel does accept a stereo mix often found on most synth modules, and being midi controlled those heavily into sequences might find this very useful in your stage rig - less knobs to play with, as you control it with sys-ex.

I used it as an outboard summing mixer, to combine the stereo outputs of some of the many outboard effects units I have, to the stereo effects in of my mixing console. Why? Because I had eight sends, but only one stereo pair as returns. Anyway, this little mixer solved that problem nicely, in a small amount of space.

It requires a 15V wall wart which I cannot find... I have a vast amount of boxes in the attic I'm still going through, so it's possible that I might find it however for the purposes of this sale I would assume it does not exist. I do in fact have the manual for the unit, so at least you don't have to beg Motu for a manual they will not send you :D I don't have the original box, but I'll pack it nicely so it arrives safe and sound, with the manual.

There are some minor scratches on the top of the unit, all the way in the back, and there is a slight amount of rack rash because when it was installed in my long-gone pro studio whoever mounted it didn't use the plastic washers like they were supposed to. It's clean otherwise.

$75 plus actual shipping from the 07067 zip code, I am in north-central NJ.

Please note that I have always had a ton of problems with PM's for some reason, and I apologize for that. I think it's because I use "Lynx" in text mode under linux rather than Windows... but that's another story. You can email me directly if you are interested: frederic (at) midimonkey (dot) com, I generally read my email every day.

Note: I'm spelling all this out because of the recent "possible fraud" going on with some sellers here and people's fear that everyone selling could be a dirtbag. I've been here since 2000 and have approximately 2300 posts to my name...
