is there any way to use the motu 24i without the pc card? It calls the wire Audiowire, but it's the same type of cable as firewire cable. Wondering if there is any way to use it on a laptop. Otherwise I need a new interface for the laptop.

it is NOT FIREWIRE

though the cabling looks the same as a firewire cable, it is NOT

I repeat it is NOT A FIREWIRE CABLE, and CANNOT BE USED TO TRANSFER TO A LAPTOP. 24i needs to use the AUDIOWIRE cable

It's a proprietary usage with MOTU gear helping audio in & out
but once again, though it looks the same, it is NOT FIREWIRE

you will need a different interface preferably the 828, that's for laptops. and if your selling your 24i, let me know how much

thanks for the fast response. I figured it wasn't the same, but it was worth a shot asking. Before I go and sell it and spend more on a different interface, is there such thing as an external PCI card for a mac laptop, or any other way?

well i found the answer to my own question. There is something called a cardbus-to-pci made by magma. But it costs about a grand for one slot! I'm better off spending less on a new interface.

actually, you can use any Firewire cable under 15' for the connection, but not into a Firewire port... only works into an Audiowire port.

bleyrad, exactly the point. A laptop can't have audiowire because it really can't use a pci card.....without that expensive device. mstudio1224@aol.com, I don't think I'm gonna sell it just yet. I would rather not be selling and spending more money when I am going to live in Boston which is expensive enough. I am considering bringing my current setup with me. I'm just afraid someone might brake in and steal stuff. My current setup would be a PC Desktop with the motu 24i and possibly getting a smaller mixer then the one I have. Just trying to save my money.

You might want to look at some of the PCMCIA cards, though I think they are limited to 8 tracks in at a time.
