I'm looking for my first recording gear. Primarily interested in recording guitar but I will be adding a drum machine in the future.

What do you think about the 2408?
What kind of computer will I need to run it?
Is it best to be on a mac?

I think I can buy it used for around $500, is their something else I should spend the money on?

I have a 2408mkII and couldn't be happier. It may or may not be right for you. I run mine on PC so I don't use their Digital Performer but it jams right along with just about any software.

Another happy customer

I too have the 2408 mkII and I am quite pleased with it. I am, as it were, considering adding at least one more to my set up when funding permits. Nevertheless, in answer to the rest of your question, I use the Digital Performer software that is somewhat standard for the MOTU stuff and so I use a Mac G4. Dollar for dollar, though I am not quite an expert on such matters, I believe that PCs are cheaper than Macs. So, you can take TrackRats advice and use the 2408 with a PC and the program of your choice and probably end up with a fine sounding system.

Whatever you choose, good luck and...remeber to read the threads on this site. I am fairly new to recording and computer recording (6 months) and I am becmoning proficient as I go along. Much of that proficiency comes from reading this site. The people on this site (at least some of them) are very knowledgable and always willing to share their insight, experience and knowledge...and its free!!!. A rarity in this day and age if ever there was one.

Thanks for the input...I'll keep it in mind. That's why I'm asking now, hopefully to figure things out before I payout.

So it doesn't seem as though it's very picky about exactly which computer it will work on. Some of the equipment I look at wants certain chip sets and motherboards.
