I'm thinking about getting a Keysection for my homestudio. Which of these should I get? I can only afford one since it's not my main instrument of choice!!!

Which of these two should I get. I meen, I want a real sampler with at least 128 Mb of RAM, but I also like the sounds in the Motif very much.

Does anyone know if the sampler in the Motif is expandeble beyond the 64 Mb of RAM limit? Maybe by getting someone to modify it? Is it possible.

So...

...you want a keyboard AND a sampler. Gotcha. No, Motif isn't expandable beyond 64 megs of ram - as far as mods, you probably need to talk to a geek in Japan... You'll need at least 16 in your Motif to make it worthwhile if you get into resampling sounds. If keys aren't crucial to your studio at this moment, and you really dig the Motif, then wait until the Motif rack ships, and then buy yourself a sampler like an A4000. If you got loot for mods like you're asking about, then buy a Motif board, and buy a standalone sampler to accompany it. If you really gotta have more sample ram in your workstation, get a Triton.

Be sure you NEED more than 64 megs of sample ram, too. It's not as much as it could be, but it's still a reasonable amount. As it stands, you aren't using a synth or a sampler (right?) - so unless you've got plans to load string libraries and shit into your sampler, or do major sampling shit you'll probably be ok. You'd be amazed at what you can do with 16 megs of ram, not to mention 64...

nuff info.

Do you think the Motif will be available in Rack format? Are there any official plans for that happening?

I'm trying to help you, dude, but you gotta help yourself, too.
Re-read the posts I've written to you - check the yamahasynth.com website, look at the yamaha japan site, too (for the pictures). Do a search on the forums I mentioned to you. Get some loot up. Buy something.

good luck.
