I'm looking for advice from motif 8 users. I'm still figuring out this unit and I'm having trouble with something that seems like it would be simple. I want to use the unit as a drum machine, creating a rhythm track and sending it to a aw2816. I thought the most logical way would be to construct a drum track using the pattern record mode. Seems I should be able to piece it together by making a pattern chain. At first I was afraid I could only arrange patterns in real time; I wanted to program it out. Then I discovered that it seemed possible by going through the pattern chain edit mode, but when I programmed the order of my sections and tried to play it back, it wouldn't give any audio. Before I get too frustrated with this, has anyone out there had success with this unit as a drum machine such that you could help me out? thanks in advance.

I have a Motif 6, but the sequencer is the same. I just started figuring this out myself, so I will give it a shot. To record my pattern chain I go into pattern chain mode, then hit record. It will give you a screen to set up some recording parameters, then when you hit play it will start with the displayed section.

At the last measure of each section you can press the next section and it will automatically go to it at the start of the next measure. Then just keep going until the end, at which point you press stop.

I don't know if this helps, but I just learned it so I thought I would try to help.
