i've been having a lot of problems with my box lately i can't record any audio tracks without pops and glitches or playback any midi track recorded and this is all new i have three HD and one of them is guaranteed to crash the computer everytime i access it and the bad thing is this is my audio hard drive but since i can't really record anything the inaccessibility is less painfull :(
my pc is running
winXP pro
Dual processor AMD 1600
512 mb
a 30 gig for softwares
a 60 gig for audio
a 60 gig for backup and miscellaneous

what i want to do is upgrade my rig
since my tyan mobo is discontinued i want upgrade to a new one
hike up my rams

what kind of motherboard should i go for?
pentium or AMD

thanks for your input

I only hear good things about the Asus PC-DL mobo. This is an Intel based (XEON) mobo.

Is your Tyan board a VIA based chipset? If it is have you got the latest VIA 4in1 drivers?
Any rate .... If you upgrade your mobo ......
AMD ... go with a nForce chipset
Intel ... go with an 875P chipset (what I use, and am very pleased ... 3GHz P4)

I can't speak for the Xeon based boards (no experience with them). Though, I have heard of a few issues people have had with certain DAW proggies not being able to utilize dual Xeon's.

thanks guy

come on guys drop some names so i can do some research

again thanks

Regardless of whether you're Intel or AMD, the Asus boards are great for recording.

I personally use and recommend an Asus P4P800, P4 with the 865 chipset.
I've no experience with their AMD based boards, but I've heard they're fine too
