Hi.

what motherboard do you recommend for an audio dedicated PC running Windows XP, Cubase SX, a MOTU 2408mkIII

and also a Pentium 4 1.6ghz?

you just had to say pentium didnt ya

is that because that is the processor you already have or are eyeballin?...cause if you havent already id suggest going with an athlon...and run an ASUS A7N8X mobo...as far as anything I think ASUS boards are the most reccomended.

(note, I have no clue if the above stated mobo will work with a Pentium processor :D )

the guys at MOTU said to try and use a Pentium not an athlon....

and yes i already own a Pentium 4 1.6 :D

I will agree, ASUS.
I have an Epox and wish I got an ASUS.
It will be my next board.
I also like MSI I have one that's pretty solid.

I agree

i've got the Abit KT7a RAID with the athlon 1.2ghz chip.

I'm eyeballin' the Abit IT7 vmax2 with a 2.6ghz P4 chip (tax return money).

Big T, I have an Asus P4T533 with 512mb of the new 4200 Rambus memory and Intel P4 chipset as a dedicated audio machine with the new Motu 2408mkIII and it is very stable. I very rarely get crashes and it flies. This board also has raid support and works great in a striped drive configuration for audio. Although dram is nearly as quick as rambus in clockspeed the rambus memory has a much larger bus width therefore resulting in a faster system. Downfall is that it is not cheap! I highly recommend an Asus Board! They rock!

you're right it isnt cheap

how do i find out what motherboard i currently have? i suspect its probably an intel one but how do i check?

Hi

I have a 2408. Don't buy the Gigabyte GA-7VAXP. I found out the combination isn't good. And read about manny having the same problems. Finally I took some time to put it in my other system with an ASUS A7V133, not as fast as the Gigabyte, but all the problems dissapeared. I'm now looking for a faster mobo but I want to be sure it gives no problems with the motu.
Somebody anny suggestion what is a good mobo for the PCI 424??

Good luck
Henry

Hey Big T

I can't reply to your private message, I don't know why, but the answer is, I use Cubase SX v1.051 and it's steady as a rock!!!! I don't use windows XP but Windows 2000. So I don't know if that's sollid too.

Good luck
Henry
