Shame on me, I don't have an RE20. I've been offered a PL20 for under $200.

Apparantly they renamed al the RE's to PL's for a whyle and it's actually the same mic.

Do you know anything about this?

Hey Chris haven't had internet all day!

Yes that's a good deal. I would pick it up if I was being offered that deal.

HERE read a little bit about them.

Are you able to try it out first? If so plug it in and hold it straight up then tilt it from side to side if you hear a thump it has *baby rattle syndrome* and will need to be addressed before using it as a kick drum microphone but will be perfectly fine as a vocal microphone stationary in the stand.

No worries, thanks for the reply.

I allready know it has the baby rattle syndrome, that's why it's cheap. I've heard about this issue before. The seller says it has to do with detiriorated foam, which sounds like a quick fix to me, right?

I've had mine apart to a certain point and dared not go any further so I gave up.

But like I said with it on a stand for vocals only the BRS will not be an issue.

OK. I'm ussually good at taking things appart, so I'll give it a go. But if I strand halfway, I'll use it like you said.

Thanks for backing me up. Cheers.

No problem Chris.

Keep me informed on this for both Whitestrat and I have a RE20 with baby rattle syndrome and need to get them fixed at some point.

I'll do that, you'll see this thread popping up at the top again after I looked into it.

I've opened rather complex mics in the past, I hope this one won't prove to be my nemesis (<= enter thunderstorm effect :D)

Same here Chris but I didn't want to take a chance and kill the microphone all together so I stopped and reassembled it.
You'll know the point I m talking about when you get there. I looked the internet from top to bottom in regards to fixing the RE20 but to no avail.

I stripped my re-20 right down to bits one time, so if you need any info, shout me.

DON'T ruin the grub screw that holds the grill on, just get the right tool!( lesson learned over here :p )

What point did you get to Henry? perhaps i can help?

Hey Paul
I pulled it out of it's casing so that what you have is the inside part that holds the diaphragm.
I opened it and found that a little plastic thingy was loose UNDER the diaphragm and to get to that seems impossible short of damaging it.

ah, i understand.

Out of interest, do you have the little circuit board out?

Mine seems to have been hardwired at some point, so there are no options for impedance changing. I'd love to see an unmolested one.

No I put it back together.

Dang. no worries,,,maybe OP can help.

It's got a split new capsule in it, and it sounds great, but it reads 35 ohms, and 15 with the low cut engaged.

IDK ..... it's kind like purchasing an automobile with the hood wielded closed and the only way to fix it is to send it back to the manufacturer!
