alright guys, i have a question about vocal recording. personally, i never did much vocal recording, but i just did a song where it's needed, so now i need advice. i am using a cheap mic and recording vocals. with this in mind, i have a Sonic Foundry set of plug-ins that include a plug-in called "Graphics Dynamics", and it have a compressor setting. it's working, but not as good as i had hoped. what do i need to get a good compression sound. if u want a blueprint of the settings, e-mail me and ill send u a print screen. also, i want to upgrade my mic setup, so how much should i put back for a nice studio mic with a stand, shock resister, pop filter, and preamp, and where can i get one for as cheap as possible. thanks.

So what exactly is it that you are trying to do with the compression? I personally don't use compression on vocals! I like to keep the natural dynamics of the singer. Remember, don't add plug-ins unless you need to! If you really want mic info post in the mic forum! This is for CAKEWALK users and cakewalk questions.

this song is very ambient and relaxed, so i'd like to keep my voice on an even keel. that's what compression is supposed to do, right? that was my impression anyways. i was just wondering out of curiousty, i'll mess with it a bit more tonight. and btw, i didn't even think about the mic forum, i forgot we had 1, lol.
