ok ,i know i sound a bit redundant, but i basically am doing this whole production thing from a beginner's level, yet i want to do it right and get this stuff out there(web pages, live shows,etc...)as far as my area of expertise,i am a performer/musician first.blah blah, just so i don't come across completely moronic, but this is definitely the best forum to ask questions and talk about things i love.aaa-aanywaaa-aay.i got the philips cdr770,and have begun mixing the songs off of my boss br-8 digital 8-track,aside from the typical minor eq problems,i notice that the overall sound is kind of flat, not quite as shimmering and bright as standard rock and roll cd's.i mean,OK,the first obvious problem is i don't have a high end studio,i don't have any outboard efx gear,i am limited,to say the least, but so far i have gotten VERY VERY lucky in accomplishing such an amazing sound,SO FAR.but, this final step,is soooo crucial!!if anyone is familiar with the boss br-8 recorder,it has no ins or outs for fx loops, there is internal digitl fx alogorithms for post or pre,and after a bit of thoughts on how the big boys in the big studios do the final mastering,i tried putting a master, overall eq and compression,on the entire 8 tracks, but now, this is where i need advice,is there a way to make this work?some sort of subtle compression or eq or something to make it all just boost and shine and just add punch, without losing the mix i have with everything,(for example just the way i have the rhythm section eq'd is pretty close to perfect and wouldn't want to lose all the subtleties by adding an overall effect)is there anyone out there that can perscribe a solution ,or is someone familiar with th br-8 and knows the `tools i have to work with?please any suggestions on this would so much help.i know that late last night a,i tried basic compression, and it made everything duck out so severely, there are specific effects obn this machine so if you knoiw ,please talk to me-thanks
