Hi, I have a Fast Track Usb and am getting into recording bass, guitar, and vox.
but Im thinking to the future of hopefully recording a full kit

I am curious, how can I get more inputs and record mics into my computer?
Can I use a mixer and have that output go into my interface?

Thanks in advance

Yes, but the Fast Track is limited to 2 ins and outs. Everything would still be routed to 2 ins and outs. If you want more INDEPENDENT (separate channels) i/o you gotta move up to a soundcard with more i/o.

USB runs out of steam real quick and if you want to record more than a handfull of channels at the same time you really need to consider moving to Firewire.

And if you're using ProTools, you MUST get a Digidesign-approved interface for ProTools to work (its a copy-protection thing...)

Go look at the soundcard guide over at www.tweakheadz.com for a guide and review of interfaces that WORK.

o wow this is a lot of info!
thanks so much
yeah, I'm afraid I dont have firewire on this puppy :[
but something to look for in the future!
also a bit of a random one, but I heard you get better audio recording onto a seperate hard drive
would a usb/firewire harddrive be better than my standard computer c drive?
so would the perhaps cheapest solution would be get a soundcard with more i/o and then run a mixer into that?

thanks so much!

also, using like a pci card or whatever its called and adding a firewire port into my computer, how would that work?

Both USB2 and USB3 are capable of handleing 8-16 inputs...Im not as sure about firewire...but some of the units use firewire.
