M Audio Delta 1010 Lt or Behringer BCA2000 is the choice I am pondering
I like some of the features of the Behringer (But I know many here hate their products) but the 1010 has many more ins/outs which I am learning from reading and studying here and everywhere will probably become more important as time goes by.
I still have not decided Cubase or Powertracks (if it makes any difference)
We are just starting out will be recording primarily vocals, guitar, drum machine and probably MIDI fill ins to round things out

I know many of you probably get tired of some of these same questions repeated over and over just phrased a little different but I really am thankful for all of your help and ideas

I do not know if this is proper to ask on these boards but I have found the 1010lt for 206.16 plus shipping any idea if I can do better anywhere or think this is the deal? If this is the card advice directs me towards
Thanks again
Tim

If it were me, I'd go with the M-Audio. Behringer stuff has a reputation of being pretty cut-corner cheap... lots of features, but at expense of quality (although there are some models that I see from time to time that people consider decent). M-Audio, on the other hand, especially the delta stuff, seems to be held in pretty high regard by a lot of people who use it.

As for choice of software, it really comes down to personal preference, but since you're just starting out, anything will do. Maybe you have friends that use a certain piece of software or something, so that would be a reason to use it, as you have someone to get help from.

If you dont have any leanings, you might go ahead and try some free stuff first, I've heard good things about free packages such as Kristal... and some others I cant recall offhand (I use cubase myself).

How are you set in terms of mics and such? Do you have any decent mics already, or is that going to be something you'll need to buy? If I were just starting out again, I'd just go with the standard sm57, and record just about everything with it until I was ready to take it up a level.

I own a 1010lt and definitely recommend it over the BCA2000. With the Delta, you have more of a way to grow. With the Behringer, if you find you need more channels, you'll still have the control surface on your desktop. Also there's the limitations of USB to consider.

I'd suggest going with the 1010lt for now (also I believe Emu sells a similar PCI card if you want to compare). Later, you could grab a BCF2000, in my opinion a much better control surface, with 100mm faders, knobs, and quite a few assignable buttons. That would give you 2 mic preamp inputs, 6 unbalanced inputs, spdif i/o, midi i/o, word clock, and a surface to control all 8 analog inputs and recording for about $420 or less. I think I've seen 1010's go for less than 200 on eBay if you want to go that route.

Oh, and I use Cubase SX and enjoy it so I'd have to recommend it, but I haven't used Powertracks so I can't compare. The 1010lt comes with a version of Ableton Live, sorry I haven't used it either.

I'd go 1010LT ($219 at zzounds and others). Of course, a used 1010 ,if in perfect condition, for $200 is even better, but I am always weary of used electronics.

Presently the BCA2000 drivers are PURE CRAP!!!!, so I wouldn't buy it until some stable
drivers are actually produced.
