hey,
Ive been recording for a while now, but there's a pretty major part of it which I havent come across much yet because the music I like, play and record does not include much of it, so I'm just trying to find out more about it and get a better understanding of it. some explanations would be helpful :) I'm going to a recording/mixing course in a few months and I will be learning about it there as well but I think it would be much better if I have more knowledge on it when I go.
cheers

Here's a reallly basic explanation.

Well, MIDI is a communication thing.

MIDI messages are sent (by hardware controlling) to a destination and that in turn triggers something. Either a sound from a virtual instrument or a complete patch change on a guitar set-up, a fader move in your DAW, etc.

join a midi forum and read the stickys mate, ask loads of questions and get reading.

cheers, could you give me a link? or is it something I can simply type into google and they'll be loads of?

Some years back, I had to teach myself about MIDI (in my case using it as a control protocol for lots of gear) and found THIS BOOK was an awfully good beginning.

Back in the days (since 95) i was a member of what was the most awesome midi forum on the web which has since closed down basically because of hackers and spammers.
Most of the older members are now apart of this forum.
