My tascam 2488 only have 2 external aux's sends and returns i would like to have more like 8 or 10 how would i get more AUX's tracks sends and returns ??

Is there a mixer out there that has alot of AUX sends and returns who makes one which brand please?

walty, where are you from? i know of this mixer, but its not availible everywhere in the world.

my behringer mixer has 4 subgroup outs and 8 direct outs. that could help you. UB2442FX-Pro by good old behri.

UB2442FX-Pro

This only has 4 AUX sends and returns i need more

How can i make a AUX send and return box
I would need a SPLITTER box and what else ?

Shure makes something called an "Auxpander". It might be what you are looking for.

8-10 aux sends is actually a lot for a budget mixer. The only one I know of with 8-10 that is somewhat affordable is the Soundcraft Ghost. Don't know if that's in your budget or not.

If you can make do with 6 sends, then there are a ton of inexpensive boards out there with that. The Mackie 1604 VLZ PRO and Onyx series have 6 sends, for example.

A splitter rack mount box unit like 8 outputs splitted going to 8 different multi-effects processors then a RECOMDing unit like another rack mount LINE mixer recombing the outputs = 8 AUX sends and returns this rules

this is my orginal idea instead of buying a big console

you are the man SonicAlbert this is what i been looking for long time
thanks alot

Glad I could help.

Splitting like what you were talking about with your splitter box still only gets two sends off the board, and no control over how much signal gets sent to the 8 fx boxes. Other than the original two aux sends. The Shure Auxpander solves some of that.

Believe me, I've been through this before myself, and the Auxpander is the only thing I've found. I don't use one myself, as I now have mixers with 6-8 sends, but it looks like a great device and who knows I may end up with one eventually anyway!

But SonicAlbert if my recorder only has 2 sends how else can i hook up the
Auxpander?

How would u hook up the auxpander if your mixer or recorder DAW only had 2 sends and 2 returns ?

The Auxexpander uses the insert points but my DAW tascam 2488 doesn't have any insert points which really sucks

But if i put the Auxexpander using the 2 sends i can put more external processors in the 8X8 matrix

Mostly i need a DAW with alot of insert points

I'll have to do more reading on the Auxpander again, but I think you can hook it up to the aux sends just as well as the inserts. My understanding of how it works is that the two aux sends of your mixer can be routed to eight outputs. However, the difference between this and the splitter you talked about earlier is that each of those eight signal paths have volume control on them.

It's still not as good a mixer with eight sends though. For the money an Auxpander costs, you could get yourself a Mackie 1604 VLZ or an Onyx 1640, which have six aux sends. That's still not the eight you'd like, but you can do a lot with six sends.

Thats still spilting the signals from 2 to 8

However, the difference between this and the splitter you talked about earlier is that each of those eight signal paths have volume control on them.

A splitter and a recombing line mixer has volume knobs on them its the same thing

a Auxexpander is a Splitter and a recombing line mixer all in one it seems to me

a Mackie 1604 VLZ or an Onyx 1640, which have six aux sends.

Me getting a Mixer is not going to do anything because my DAW recording 2488 tascam doesn't have any inserts or direct outputs for each track
so the only way to use a mixer would not be post production using aux tracks it would have to be pre production using a mixer with 6 aux whiling recording not while mixing do u know what i mean Sonic?

Thats if u jump channels or chain them together which i thought also but its just a 8 channel aux channels for only ONE per channel u would have to have 8 different inserts

Its just making track#1-track#8 have one Aux track channel per track thats it, its not like track#1 has 8 Aux track channels this is splitting the signal and recombing

Most DAW don't have inserts on each track plus only 2 AUX channels very limited

If a DAW doesn't have inserts or only 2 aux channels u can't really do that much post production multi-effects so since we are so limited the only thing i was thinking about was

The Auxexpander is only used for pre-production while recording so it PRINTS the effects on the tracks

But if i buy a 8 or more channel mixer with 8 or more inserts to use the Auxexpander its only putting one aux channel per 8 channels im not even recording 8 things at once this is for live bands the DAW records are still way behind DAW's need 8 inserts to make this work in post production this really sucks but it would be really nice to have a DAW with 8 inserts to have a AUX channel per track

So track#1 has its own Aux channel#1
Track#2 has its own Aux channel#2

And Then u can try to buy another Auxpander and jump the channels or split 8 inputs and recombing so each track can have 8x8

So track#1 has 8 Aux channels for that track only
Track#2 has 8 aux channels for that track only

This u can layer compressors,eqs,reverbs , effects

This is how a real console should be but there is nothing like this unless u pay alot of money or get something custom made

But im thinking of just buying cheap gear and making a console to these specs u know what i mean Sonic?

Because Behringer or Mackie doesn't make a Mixer with 8 auxs per track/channel u have to buy a DAW with alot of inserts and then use a splitter/preamps with volume knobs and a recombing unit a line mixer with volume knobs for use this is what i need really bad

My main point is i hate my Aux channels SHARING for all my tracks on my DAW its wrong and u can't do nothing at all without INSERTS for each tracks really sucks your post production just really sucks and very very limited no way around it i think

I looked up that Tascam 2488 unit. I think that unfortunately you are going to be stuck with the limitations of that hardware. The Auxpander might help, but ultimately the real bottleneck is the two auxes on the 2488, and there probably isn't a fully satisfactory way around that.

A computer based DAW along with an 8 channel or more audio interface would give you the capabilities you want though. For example, if you have an eight channel audio interface and a software DAW, you can simply patch outputs on the interface to your eight fx boxes, and then assign the aux in software to those outputs. It's much more flexible, and might be something for you to think about for the future.

Thanks SonicAlbert for your time and information

I do really like the auxexpander and your right i do need to upgrade one day
i been looking for a auxexpander for a long time i never knew someone made it i really like it its a great tool for post production big time unless u have a huge big mixer more than u need for just extra AUX's

The interface should have a headphones jack so u can monitor the mix while the jacks are converted to inserts or sends and returns

how would i be able to "record" all those extra AUX channels ?

The Alesis ADAT HD24 Digital Hard Disk Recorder
24 analog inputs and outputs

Mackie HDR2496 24-Bit 24-Track Hard Disc Recorder
Tascam X48 48-Track Hybrid Hard Disk Recorder

These are rack mount Hard disc recorders and have direct out for inserts i think for each track right??

Behringer Eurodesk SL3242FXPRO Mixer has 4 aux sends per channel it says and one insert per channel

Which mixing board has multiple inserts channels?

i just read the manual its a SHARED 4 aux tracks with all tracks

Since my 2488 has a AUX send if i crank it to just pure DRY signal 100% to the aux expander its like using a insert

But if i record a track dry the i can do PRINTING the effects by send the dry track out to the multieffects processor and the back to "Another" channel and then keep bouncing the track until u got like 6 Aux effects by PRINTing re-recording adding effects building the audio track until its rich and layered

My 2488 doesn't have automation so i have to PRINT all my automation the eqs sweeps per track the PRINT record the Pan sweeps then PRINT the volume changes of the AUX sends or SOLO and MUTO automation to record and print all these stuff one by one

They call printing=freezing a track now
