Just wanted to post this and get some opinions.
I originally recorded it in Cubaste VST using the onboard drum machine
but couldn't stand the cheezy canned drum sound.

I dragged all my brothers old drum sets out of the crawlspace...
we're talkin...4 sets of drums with 20 cymbals, doublekicks, 2 snares,
and no idea how to set the stuff up. I kinda pieced em together and went
over the drum tracks one track at a time, so I'm curious if my
live drum sound actually sounds like a live drum.

Either way the song isn't quite finished cause I got to the end and faded
it out cause I ran outa ideas on what to do next.

I'd appreciate any advice from ANYBODY who listens to this on how to improve on this....
especially where it comes to stereo imaging and stuff.

I raise the gtr volume by the amount the bass track should be lowered....a couple of smidgens...
I'd also take a new bass sound...old mini moog in the closet too?;)

nice break at 2:34...seems better than the first section to me. but the gtr (that comes in later) is a little toooo far back and drenched in verb...which is ok...but just a tad too much.

Honestly...the drums....they could be either for me..and they actually sound rather precise to me, and I'd guess them to be canned as a first guess..

oh yeah...I really like your gtr playing...right up my alley of likes and dislikes....good stuff.

I'm my second listen through at the moment and I'm going to second what mixmkr said- you'd have a pretty nice stereo image if those rythm guits were a hair or two louder. I can hardly hear them pulling the song out into both speakers until that nice break.

The volume of the bass, along with the somewhat un-dynamic kick and snare, really pull the song back into the center. The drum SOUND is pretty good, but the performance isn't significantly more realistic than a drum machine. That's why it still sounds a bit like a canned set.

I think that the technique has some real potential, though this mix, and perhaps this performance, isn't really doing it justice.

Good idea,
Chris
