Hey all.
Bought an MG1 last week and decided to make up some wooden sides.

My bro is out of town which means I have no router, but I thought I'd get the chisels out and give it a go by hand.

I did balls it in the end, but hey, I know what I'm doing for the next try, right?

Two pics here.

I think it'll be a real nice job, so I'll give it another (proper) go soon.

Just ordered a replacement slider kit online, so I'll maybe post up pics of the switch out, and of the new wooden sides, if I ever get around to making those.

Was that just pine you were using for the new sides there Paul.

Yeah, just a few old pine offcuts that were lying around.
I have two bits of mahogany sitting there that might work out nicely for a second attempt.

Well, the original plastic sides have two screw holes in the base, and a plastic equivalent to the lines I was chiselling.

The thin metal face plate slots into those lines sideways, and from the factory they used hot glue to keep them in place.

Cheers bob.
See the nick out of it? There were nail holes in the wood and things like that, so I knew it wasn't going to be a finished product first time round.
Product of scrap wood and boredom more than anything. :)

yeah I saw the nick. Gonna have one there anyway first time you bang it into a door jamb moving it around.

Had another go last night/today.

Still need a little rub and some varnish, but I'm definitely pretty happy overall.

that does look good.

Did you notice how the wood grain on those ends looks a lot like the nick you were unhappy with?

Lol, I guess you're right, although the nick was 4/5mill deep.

Dang, just realised I took the old photos off the server. Sorry to anyone looking for nicks! :p

I just hit them with varnish there. It's evened out the colours a bit so I'll post another pic tomorrow.
Maybe I'll post a before shot too.

I ordered and received a set of replacement faders for this synth, as the internal foam dust covers break down and goo seeps into everything on the control pcb.

While the new faders were on route I got bored and dismantled and thoroughly cleaned the original sliders, and they seem to be fine for now, so I think I'll keep the replacements for a rainy day.

If the originals get sticky again over time, at least I know I have a backup.

Photos to follow.

You should have taken some liberties while designing the sides of the moog and gave them big fins or something futuristic in looks. :thumbs up: good workmanship Paul.
