Montitor speaker cables..what brand?

What brand of speaker cable is good for monitor to amp? I have some cheap no name brand stuff and was wondering if upgrading these cables would be like upgrading instrument cables were you can hear the difference. I have a small piece of canare 4s8 i used to make speakon cable for my bass amp and i started wondering about this.

For studio monitors I prefer 10 gauge cable.

I use the Original Monster Cable on mine. It's a 10 gauge cable. I don't think it's necessary to use designer cable to get a good sound.

You can get 10 gauge wire from the hardware store.

I use Cobalts for the "A" set and some goofy semi-cheesy (16 ga. Monster standard) for the other stuff.

It really depends on the chain - If the amp & speakers are "worthy" of great cables, it doesn't hurt to use them. On the other hand, Cobalt and the like are good enough (IMO) and I really don't see the additional benefit of the crazy-priced audiophile cable - If I really thought a $500 set of cables would have made a substantial difference, I would've used them.

The last time I had one of my "audiophile freak" buddies over and we compared his (can't remember the brand) $1500 cables to my (Around $150 for a *pair*) Cobalts, he guessed the more expensive one around 40% of the time - Which was about 10% less than I was expecting, if you catch my drift.

On the flip side, the difference between the Cobalts and the 16-guage Monster stuff was surprisingly substantial... I really wasn't expecting that.

Depending on how much power handling, 10-14 AWG stranded wire. You might know 14 AWG as lamp cord, 12 AWG as a (generally 3-wire) extension cord, and 10 AWG as an ultra-heavy-duty extension cord....

Careful because a fair amount of lamp cord out there is 18 AWG.

Right now I'm using the 16 AWG Monster poo. I say "poo" because there is nothing wrong with it, other than Monster's silly marketing--like the fact they don't label their product with the gauge My runs are only 6', it hardly matters really.
