mono tracks

I was just playing a little more with my mixer and stuff...and realized that i can get a lot of mono ins on my sound card...is much quality lost when recording mono tracks? is this often done in big studio?

They're usually all mono tracks - unless the source is stereo (e.g., keyboards) or you are micing something for stereo effect (e.g., drum overheads).

No quality difference between mono and stereo.
