Mono test in PA9???

OK, I hope this will be a nice simple question for someone. I can't find an easy way in Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 to listen to the output in mono. Stereo is working fine, but I want to check that my mix comes across properly in mono.

I know I can export to a mono file and listen to that, but I would prefer to just listen while in Cakewalk.

Is there a button or preference I'm missing? Is there a stereo to mono plugin that I could slap across the main outs?

Thanks!

hope this helps someone.... :)

I found an answer to my problem. The free "vinyl" plugin at www.izotope.com seems to work out. It does more than I needed, but I can slap it across the final master out and turn from stereo to mono to check my mix. I can also simulate cheaper stereos, which is something I like to do when mixing.

I turn off all the other effects in the plugin and it seems to work fine.

This is how you can do it in Sonar (I'm not sure if PA9 works the same way).

Go to Console View and look at your Main Out section. At the very bottom of the db meter (just above the fader) you will see an icon with two speakers - one pointing left and one right. Clicking on that icon will toggle the playback between mono and stereo.

Thanks for the tip - I looked in the console view, but the older more primitive PA-9 doesn't have the icons. I don't see anything in the help or books either. Seems like PA-9 is a MIDI program with some audio features...:)

Yep, PA 9 doesn't have the "mono/stereo" button to toggle. You can always just set all your pans to center to get your mono signal. This is what I usually do anyway when mixing - mix in mono before panning. But if you already have everything panned just right and you don't want to screw around with it then you may be out of luck.
