mono or stereo plugin on stereo out

some plugins i have gives both mono and stereo versions of e.q, compressors etc.... when mastering a track i am assume i should insert the stereo plugin on the out buss...

is this correct?

Yup. If it's a stereo track, use a stereo plug-in, if it's a mono track, use a mono plug-in.
Obviously, if you're mastering, you're going to be working with a stereo track. Unless you decided to go old school and have a mono mix. xD
