I have a pair of powered 300 watt stereo speakers that have bass and treble control on them that i use for mixing my songs...i was wondering if when i'm mixing my songs if i should mess with the bass and treble on the speakers or if i should put them both at the same level or just shut the bass and treble off completely.

When I used home stereo speakers for mixing I kept the Low, Mids, and high's centered so it wouldn't color the sound too much. But there's nothing like a good set of recording monitors.

Yep keep them centered.

The difference between HI-FI speakers and studio monitors is that you have to learn how each one transfers to other systems but the studio monitors have a quicker learning time which means you don't have to check how the mix sounds on different systems eg.car, discman, other hi/fi's.

You have to learn how your speakers sound and mix that into your songs. Again with studio monitors the time is less to learn how it sounds and transfers.
