I have about $200 to spend on monitors. What are some good monitor packages (with amp, speakers) that I could get for under $200 ?

Unless you have at least $300, you wont get much that is helpful.....for $300, you can get the Hafler M5/TA 100 monitor/amp combo from Musicians Friend (web special)....believe me, I am the biggest cheapskate you know so if there was anything out there cheaper that was better than my home stereo system, I would have it....I could recommend something for $200 but you'll soon be posting "I have new monitors and my mixes still suck".....

Yo Ice-Man:

You can try the Yorkville YSM-1 monitors....a bit over 200 pezzutos or a little less -- depends where you live and where you buy.

Nice sound. Not the very best in the world but they are GOOD.

Im not sure how long its gonna last...Im in need of monitors myself since Im still monitoring on a home stereo (and pulling out hair)....Im tossed up between these M5's, Tannoy ProtoJ's, and Yorkville YSM-1's....

heres a good review on the M5's....as far as the bass responce being low, I was advised that this would be a good thing if monitoring in a bad room....of course most monitors of this side are going to have a weaker bass response and its simply a matter of learning them.....

"I have new monitors and my mixes still suck" Hahhahah jk.

my room is acoustically challenged, and I have event 20/20's which supposedly have better bass response. My mixes have been coming out with a lot of low end...meaning I'm not hearing enough lows from my monitors. I would think that BETTER rooms would allow you to get away with less bass response.

Allthough I will add that I JUST got some auralex corner traps and wedgies and it's doing much better.

for a $300 power amp+monitor solution it's a good price though.

I thought that the 20/20's cost $300.00 by themselves.

These M5's look pretty good, I think I can save up some more money and get these. But first I'm going to read more about these and those other monitors that were mentioned to see which is the best buy for the best quality in my budget.

event 20/20's are $300 alone....When I said that it was a good deal I was talking about the m5's
